Fingers on the home row: your left hand steers left, your right hand steers right.

Index fingers on F and J: can you feel the bumps?

On a computer you steer with F and J. That’s how you learn to touch type.

Choose your racer and level, and go. Steer with the letter on the left and the letter on the right of the screen.

    How to play

    1. Choose your racer and levelRide with Mila, or unlock Otto, Juno, Pixel and a secret racer by going far. Easy: F and J. Challenging: the home row. Expert: every letter of your left and your right hand.
    2. Steer with one letterThe letter on the left of the screen moves you one lane left, the one on the right one lane right. On Challenging and Expert you get a new letter on that side after every key. Two lanes? Tap twice, fast. Look at the screen, not at your hands. On a phone or tablet you steer with the tap buttons ◀ and ▶.
    3. How far can you get?It keeps getting faster. After three crashes you are out and you see your points. Make the top ten and you are on the leaderboard. Enter = play again.

    What does Neon Dash train?

In touch typing, every letter belongs to one hand and one finger. Neon Dash teaches your child that without thinking about it: the letter on the left of the screen is typed with the left hand, the letter on the right with the right hand, and whoever hesitates crashes. The fingers learn the way while the eyes stay on the screen.

There are three levels, and your child chooses one before the start. Easy: F on the left, J on the right, the keys with the little bumps. Challenging: the four home row keys of each hand (A S D F and J K L ;). Expert: any letter of the left or the right hand. On Challenging and Expert, every steering key brings a new letter on that side, so your child uses every finger; a quick double tap (the same letter twice within a quarter of a second) still moves the racer two lanes. The game follows your child’s keyboard, AZERTY and QWERTZ too. Higher levels score more: ×1, ×1.5 and ×2.

It keeps getting faster and the obstacles come closer together, until your child is out after three crashes. A wrong key costs no life, but it does break the streak. At the end you see the points, the metres, the crystals and how many keys were right first time. Want to learn every key step by step? That is what Typcoon is for.

You race with the crew from Typcoon: Mila rides from the start, and going far unlocks Otto, Juno, Pixel and a secret racer, each with their own vehicle and light trail. The racer changes nothing about the game or the points, so the leaderboard stays fair. What you unlock is only remembered in this browser.

    Frequently asked questions

    What is a good score?

There is no standard: it keeps getting faster, so everyone is out at some point. Compare with your own scores: your best today is shown with the game, for each level. The leaderboard below the game shows how far others got.

    How does the leaderboard work?

Below the game there is a leaderboard for today, this week, this month and all time. If your kid gets a score in the top ten, the name they appear under shows up: a name from Neo-Delta that the game picks: a word and an animal, like the Holos in Typcoon, in a neon colour with a short code (like Turbo Fox·K7), never a real name. On the same device it stays the same name, and only your kid knows it is them. The server checks every score against the run itself. What we keep for this, and for how long, is in the privacy policy.

I have an AZERTY or QWERTZ keyboard. Does it work?

Yes. The game recognises your keyboard as soon as you type and uses the letters of your keyboard: on AZERTY, for example, Q S D F and J K L M on Challenging. If it is wrong, choose your keyboard below the game.

Does it work on a tablet or phone?

Yes. On a phone or tablet you race on Easy with two big tap buttons, ◀ and ▶, full screen, upright or sideways. Those runs have their own leaderboard: Tapping. Touch typing is best practised on a computer with a keyboard: there you steer with F and J, and you can also play Challenging and Expert. A tablet with a keyboard simply plays with the keys.

Can I put Neon Dash on my phone’s home screen?

Yes. Then the game starts with one tap, just like an app. On an iPhone or iPad: open this page in Safari, tap the Share button (the square with the arrow pointing up; sometimes it is under ···) and choose Add to Home Screen. On Android: open the page in Chrome, tap ⋮ in the top right and choose Add to Home screen (or Install app).
