How your child learns to touch type
Typcoon is a game children genuinely enjoy: your child types a city back on. Underneath that city is a smart typing course that adapts with every key to what your child already knows and still finds hard, letter by letter, all the way to the typing diploma. And you follow everything on your own phone.

following along
You follow it on your own phone
No account on your child’s computer, no password. This is how it works:
Enter your email address
In the game, under For parents at the bottom of the city. Your child can just keep playing.
Tap the button in the email
That’s all: no code to type on your child’s computer. As a thank-you, your child gets a star crystal.
Follow everything on your parent page
How many minutes your child types each day, which letters already come naturally, how accurately and how fast they type, the tests and the typing diploma. A short update by email on Sundays.
More than one child? Each child has their own city, and one email address follows them all. Already linked and lost the link? On your parent page you can ask for a new one.
what your child learns
From the home row to the typing diploma
Every district of the city is a chapter with its own letters. Your child only learns that district’s letters, until they come naturally. Then comes the district’s test, with a certificate, and after that the boss. Only then does the next district open.
How long it takes differs per child and depends mostly on how often they play. Once the Harbour is done, the game shows you an estimate based on your child’s own pace, at ten minutes a day.
The game talks: Mila and the rest of the crew are voiced, in your language, and what they say is also shown on screen. You switch the sound on or off at the bottom of the city.
These are the letters on a standard QWERTY keyboard. Typcoon also recognises AZERTY, QWERTZ and the Spanish keyboard, and adapts the exercises.

why it works
Accuracy first, then speed
A child who enjoys it practises more often. But a game alone teaches nobody to type. That’s why there is a learning engine underneath the city, with a few fixed rules:
One letter at a time
A new letter only comes when the last one sticks. Every district has its own letters, so your child never gets everything at once.
Accuracy counts most
Accurate typing earns the most in the game. Speed only counts later, and only when the typing is accurate.
Tricky letters come back
Letters that don’t come naturally yet show up more often, as glitches your child repairs by typing them right.
Ten minutes a day
After ten minutes of real typing time, the daily goal is reached. Your child can keep playing, but the game never nags. Short and frequent sticks better than one long session.
The right finger
The next key lights up in the colour of the finger that types it, with that finger’s name next to it. That keeps the eyes on the screen.
Hands on the home row
Every new day of play starts with a quick hand check. If your child keeps hitting the key next to the right one, Mila says so and a short check follows.
What you can do: sit next to your child the first time and check that their hands rest on the home row. Praise accurate typing, not fast typing. More tips in Touch typing for kids.
safe
Made for children
- No ads and no trackers from other companies.
- No chat, no other players, no public profiles.
- Nothing for your child to buy. At the end of the free part, the game asks your child to come and get you: you see what they can already do, and you decide. In the game, the price only appears behind “I am a parent”.
- All the words the game asks your child to type go through a word filter first.
- Playing without an account: progress stays in the browser, and we store no name or email address.
- With a parent account we store your email address and your child’s progress, in a database in Europe; only the emails (such as the link to your parent page) go through a US email service. You can download or delete it all on your parent page.
- Exactly what we store and for how long is in the privacy policy. Who makes Typcoon is on About Typcoon.

Frequently asked questions
From what age can my child start?
From about 8 years old, once their hands are big enough for the home row. Typcoon is made for kids aged 8 to 14: easy enough for an 8-year-old, not childish for a 14-year-old.
How long does it take to get the typing diploma?
That differs per child and depends mostly on how often they play. Once the Harbour is done, the game shows an estimate based on your child’s own pace, at ten minutes a day.
Does it work with our keyboard?
Yes. Typcoon recognises the keyboard and adapts the exercises: QWERTY, the Belgian and French AZERTY, the German QWERTZ and the Spanish keyboard. You can also choose it yourself under For parents in the game.
Can my child play on a tablet or phone?
Not on a phone: touch typing is learned on a real keyboard. A laptop or computer works best. A tablet works if a real keyboard is attached and the screen is at least 1024 pixels wide, like an iPad in landscape.
Does the game talk? Are headphones needed?
Mila and the crew are voiced, in your language. Headphones are nice but not needed: what they say is also shown on screen, and you switch the sound on or off at the bottom of the city.
Can my child buy anything?
No. There is nothing for your child to buy: no coins, no crystals for money, no ads. The full version is for parents, and in the game the price only appears behind “I am a parent”.
What if my child fails a test?
Then they practise a bit more, and the test comes back later. Failing costs nothing. A boss that wins is simply ready for another try.
We have more than one child. Does that work?
Sure. Each child gets their own city, and with one email address you follow them all on your parent page. You buy the full version per child.
