Long (148 words):
Typcoon: Nightcode is a typing game for kids aged 8 to 14, made by a small team in the Netherlands. VEX, a rogue AI, has switched off the city of Neo-Delta. Every word a child types brings a street, a sign or a tower back on, and along the way the child learns to touch type with all ten fingers. Underneath the city sits a learning engine: the home row first, one new letter at a time, accuracy before speed, about ten minutes a day. Each of the six districts ends with a test and a boss; the typing diploma comes after the final test and beating VEX. The game runs in the browser on a computer with a keyboard, in five languages, and recognises eight keyboard layouts. It is free to start, for families and for schools. No ads, no chat, nothing for a child to buy.

FACTS AT A GLANCE

Name: Typcoon: Nightcode (the game). Typcoon (the brand, typcoon.com).
What it is: A typing game in the browser: children learn to touch type with ten fingers, from the home row to the typing diploma.
Age: 8 to 14, also for children who have never typed.
Languages: English, Dutch, German, French and Spanish: the game, the voices and the website.
Keyboard layouts: Eight: US QWERTY, US-International QWERTY (as used in the Netherlands), French AZERTY, Belgian AZERTY, German QWERTZ, Swiss QWERTZ, Spanish (Spain) and Latin American. The game recognises the keyboard; a parent can also choose it.
Platform: In the browser on a laptop, Chromebook or desktop computer with a real keyboard. Nothing to install. Not on a phone. A tablet only with a real keyboard attached and a screen at least 1024 pixels wide, such as an iPad in landscape.
Free to start: Children play the first part of the game for free, starting with the Harbour, with no time limit and no account. The full version, up to the typing diploma, is bought by a parent: a child can never buy anything.
Schools: Pupils log in with a class code and their own code: no email address, no password. The teacher sees letters, accuracy, speed and practice time per child, and prints login cards and diplomas. Free to start for schools.
How it teaches: Home row first, one new letter at a time, accuracy before speed. Tricky letters come back as glitches; the next key lights up in the colour of the finger that types it. Speed in keys per minute. Daily goal: 10 minutes of play and 3 missions.
Typing diploma: At the end of the game: a final test (a short story with capitals, punctuation and numbers, at least 95% accuracy at 100 keys per minute or more), then beating VEX, the final boss. It is the game's own diploma, earned in the game.
For parents: Follow progress on your own phone: minutes, letters, accuracy and speed, with a short update by email on Sundays.
Privacy and safety: No ads and no trackers from other companies. No chat, no other players, no public profiles. Playing works without an account: progress stays in the browser and the game uses no cookies. Use of the game is counted without cookies and without knowing who the child is; at school nothing is measured. Database in Europe. Every word the game asks a child to type goes through a word filter. No public leaderboard in the game; at school a teacher can switch on a class board that only that class sees (off by default).
Made by: A small team in the Netherlands.

The separate free typing games on the site (such as Neon Dash) have leaderboards for the day, week, month and all time, with an anonymous name the game picks. There is no free text and no chat.

ANGLES FOR YOUR STORY

- Why touch typing still matters. More and more schoolwork is typed: projects, presentations and tests on the computer. A child who touch types looks at the screen, not at the keys, so their attention stays on what they want to write, and they sit up instead of bending over the keyboard.
- Ten minutes a day. Typcoon is built around short sessions. After ten minutes of play and three missions the daily goal is reached. Playing on is allowed, but the game never nags, and skipping a day pauses the streak for a day instead of wiping it out.
- A typing course inside a game. Underneath the city sits a learning engine: one new letter at a time, accuracy before speed, tricky letters coming back as glitches, and the next key lit up in the colour of the right finger. Each district ends with a test and a boss; the typing diploma asks for 95% accuracy at 100 keys per minute.
- Typing lessons at school without email addresses. Pupils log in with a class code and a personal code from a printed card; typing the code is the first exercise. Teachers see letters, accuracy, speed and practice time per child. Schools can start for free, and the game measures nothing at school.
- A children's game with nothing to buy. No ads, no chat, no coins for money. A child can never buy anything: buying is only for parents, behind “I am a parent”, and parents follow their child's progress on their own phone.

A new key: the game shows which finger types it and where it sits on the home row. Then the child types a short row.
Alt text: The new key screen for the letter S: a large key, the name of the finger, two hands with that finger lit, and a row of practice letters above the on-screen keyboard.

The Neon Market: every letter is a broken neon tube that lights up again when it is typed. The words use only the letters the child has already learned.

SHORT CLIPS

Each clip is under ten seconds, without sound. MP4 (H.264, 1280 × 720) for video, GIF (480 px wide) for places that only take images. A GIF is heavier than the MP4, so use the MP4 where you can.
The clips are in English; the game itself also runs in Dutch, German, French and Spanish.

LOGO AND ICON

The icon is a typing prompt: an orange > and a cyan cursor on the night. The logo puts the name next to it in Big Shoulders Display. SVG for print and web, PNG with a transparent background as well.

Clear space: Keep free space around the logo of at least half the height of the icon, on every side.
Minimum size: Icon at least 24 px on screen. Logo with name at least 120 px wide on screen, or 25 mm in print.
Background: On dark backgrounds the version on black or with the light name; on light backgrounds the version on white or with the dark name. On a busy picture, put a dark band behind it.

Please don't:
- stretch, squash or rotate the logo
- change the colours of the > and the cursor
- set the name in another typeface or add shadows, outlines or glows
- combine the logo with another logo into a new mark
- use the logo to suggest that Typcoon endorses or sells something

HOW TO WRITE IT

Typcoon: One word, capital T, the rest lower case. Not TypCoon, Typecoon or TYPCOON in running text.
Typcoon: Nightcode: The full name of the game, with a colon and a space. On first mention: Typcoon: Nightcode; after that Typcoon is fine.
Neo-Delta: The city, with a hyphen.
VEX: The villain of the game, a rogue AI, always in capitals.
Holos: The collectible holograms in the game.
